Campaign for Access to Information in
Nigeria
A Report of the
Legislative Advocacy Programme
for the Enactment of a
Freedom of Information Act
(in PDF)
This book
documents the
experiences garnered by Media Rights Agenda and its partners
in campaigning for the enactment of the
Freedom of Information Bill
(FOIB)
into law in the hope that other organisations currently
involved in similar advocacy work or intending to launch
legislative advocacy projects would learn from the
experience by avoiding any mistakes which may have been made
in the campaign while being able to adopt those strategies
that have worked.
It chronicles activities
from its cradle days in 1993 up till October 2001 when the
first House of Assembly (1999 – 2003) had the Public Hearing
on the Bill. Part Three of the publication contains the text
of the original gazetted FOI Bill which the House of
Representatives debated and passed with few amendments.
