Public Hearing on Freedom of Information Bill Moved to March 22

Senator Wada, Chairman, Senate Committee on Information

The Public Hearing on the Freedom of Information Bill earlier planned to take place at the Senate on March 15, 2005 has been pushed to Tuesday, March 22, 2005.

The change in date was necessitated by the sudden death of the mother of the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation, Senator Tawar Wada.  The Committee is charged with organizing the Public Hearing.

Following the conclusion of the second reading on the Bill at the Senate on February 22, the upper house of the National Assembly referred the Bill to the Information Committee for more detailed examination and recommendations ahead of the third and final reading which will take place subsequently.

At a meeting with a delegation of the Freedom of Information Coalition at the National Assembly Complex on March 2, Senator Wada announced the a public hearing on the Bill would be held on March 15.

However, following the death of Senator Wada’s mother over the weekend, the Information Committee said the public hearing had been shifted to March 22.
