MRA Begins Grassroots Enlightenment
Workshop
in Six Cities.
Media Rights Agenda has
flagged off a new campaign through workshops on the Freedom
of Information (FOI) Bill for Community Based Organisations
in six cities across Nigeria. The workshops are being
organized with the support of Partners Agency Collaborating
Together (PACT Nigeria).
The workshop, aimed at
bringing the content of the FOI Bill to the average
Nigerian, will hold in Makurdi, Calabar, Enugu, Ota, Bauchi,
and Kano. A key objective of the workshops is to generate
further awareness among a broad section of Nigerians on the
relevance of the Bill.
The workshops will also
work at strengthening the Freedom of Information Coalition (FOIC)
and make it an effective and functional platform for
campaigns, advocacy and complete sensitization about the
Bill. It is expected at the end of the workshops that
participants will understand the basic details of the Bill
and be able to explain why the Bill is relevant to their
daily lives. It will also prepare them to network and
enhance their capacity to speak about the issues in their
local areas.
About two hundred and fifty
participants from civil society and community groups shall
benefit from this new phase of the effort to get more
Nigerians to join the initiative of securing the passage of
the FOI Bill into law within the tenure of this
administration.
